Little more than a decade ago, leaders saw the possibility of accomplishing even more…

Our drive to improve constituents’ lives through the development and continual improvement of dwellings, projects, neighborhoods and communities moves us all toward the long-held belief that with housing comes stability.

Our History

New Urban Development is the real estate development affiliate of The Urban League of Greater Miami, one of South Florida’s most exalted community service organizations. Proving to be a leader and putting service first in the African American and other underserved populations and communities. For the past 75 years, The Urban League of Greater Miami (ULGM) has made it a mission to improve the lives of people living on the margins of society in Miami-Dade County. ULGM, utilizing a holistic approach to community revitalization/development has   created several initiatives designed to augment the lives of our constituents and bring about a fuller, more equitable quality of life.

To provide a holistic approach to servicing our target population, The Urban League of Greater Miami recognized a critical need for clean, quality, affordable housing. Over the past twenty years, they took a measured approach into housing development. The desire to serve brought about the creation of our real estate development arm, New Urban Development (NUD). Principally, NUD has evolved organically to steward every facet of the development process from conceptualization thru implementation in support of ULGM’s community building efforts.

Through various strategic partnerships, over 1,300 units of affordable housing units have been delivered. At present, we have over 1,500 units in our current and active pipeline. Through following the strategies set forth by our executive management team, NUD continues to successfully meet its goals and performance metrics while also providing unparallel service to our communities.

Mr. T. Willard Fair

Our leadership is experienced and results oriented. Mr. T. Willard Fair, the “dean” of UL affiliate network has been President/CEO of The Urban League of Greater Miami for more than 57 years. During this tenure New Urban Development was established and has been led by Mr. Oliver L. Gross the former Director of Development for the Urban League. Mr. Gross currently serves as President /CEO of New Urban Development and provides the leadership and visioning relative to the growth and the burgeoning opportunities currently before our organization. With great skill, they have collectively prepared our organization for the challenges facing the future of the affordable housing industry.

New Urban Development has facilitated the development of over thirteen housing projects. While also providing leadership in the management of eight properties. To date NUD has approximately $100MM in projects in the permitting and pre-construction phase. Additionally, the portfolio also has approximately $120M in site-controlled projects in various phases of pre-development. All of our properties are currently targeting the affordable/workforce market and  our primary residents include single parents, female heads of household, the disabled, seniors, and working families.

Our integrity and reputation for benefitting our clients and investors has earned us a reputation second to none for being financially capable, community oriented, and client responsive.

Our orientation has always been to take care of our constituents while providing a healthy return to investors. Being able to do both consistently is why we’ve stood the test of time, earning the trust of both the community and our financial partners. This enables us to enter challenging markets and complete major developments.

Throughout our history as community builders, we have found that we both possess and demonstrate the ability to identify and seize opportunity while also being catalysts for change in the communities we serve.
